Kailis Marine completed five-year survey works for a 30m,
310T ASD tugboat, ‘Karoo’. The sixth Special Survey (vessel
is 30 years old) was completed under Kailis Marine’s
management at the AMC common user facility in Henderson.
The vessel is in Lloyds Register classification and required
extensive works to be completed during the docking survey.
Kailis Marine provided in-house trades for all works
completed excepting some specialised tasks. All pre- and
post-docking survey work was undertaken at Kailis Marine’s
facility in Fremantle alongside a wet berth, which proved
beneficial with out of water scope of works.

The project was successfully delivered on schedule
despite challenging weather conditions and significant
additional works required beyond the initial job
specification. It was completed over a period of 30 days
which was a considerable achievement given that
extensive growth work was completed in addition to
the original repair and maintenance specification.
What could have resulted in valid weather claims did
not eventuate with teamwork, planning, good
communications and flexibility from the start of the
tender process to project closeout.
Innovation also played a role in the way the vessel was
encapsulated in a screening system during the docking
survey allowing works to continue despite challenging
weather conditions without delay. This also allowed spray
painting operations to be completed to client specifications
and AMC facilities requirements.

I was particularly impressed with the project management and level of professionalism shown and the way the team adapted and maintained a focus on project critical timelines an d the redelivery of the vessel.
We were very happy with the quality of work produced by the team at Kailis Marine. They are hard-working and take a lot of pride in delivering a quality job for the customer. I was especially pleased with the preservation scope of the project, the preparation and care taken by the team in the paint systems, delivering one of the best finished products I have seen in my time docking vessels.
I would happily recommend Kailis Marine to anyone looking for ship repair and project management support.
